Emanuel H. Hermann was born on November 1, 1871 in Sandersville, Georgia, to Isaac Hermann and Rachel Hertz Hermann. He married Katie Watkins Roughton and had two children, Rachel Hertz Hermann (Caughran) and Katie Arie Hermann, and two stepchildren, Hardy C. Roughton and S. Warren Roughton. Mr. Hermann was a banker in Scotland, Georgia, prior to the Great Depression. In 1930 Mr. and Mrs. Hermann moved with their daughter Rachel and son-in-law, Warren Ashby Caughran, to Athens, Alabama, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Mr. Hermann passed away on February 2, 1932 at the age of 60.
