Saluda Woman Dies From Burns
Columbia, Feb 21 – Mrs. D. S. Burnett, 82 of Good Hope near Saluda died here today as a result of burns suffered Friday when her dress caught fire from a heater, Coroner William A. Plott said.
Plott said Mrs. Burnett was visiting a son, H. C. Burnett at the time of the accident.

Rites At 3 For Mrs. Burnett
Burns Are Fatal to Esteemed Saluda County Woman, 82
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at three o'clock from Good Hope Baptist church for Mrs. Ida Eugenia Burnett, 82, widow of David S. Burnett of the Good Hope community in Saluda County.
Mrs. Burnett died at Providence Hospital in Columbia at 12:30 a.m. yesterday morning from burns which she received at her home on Friday of last week when her dress caught fire as she was sweeping around a heater in her bedroom.
She had been in excellent health for her age until the accident last Friday. Mrs. Burnett was a daughter of the late James and Susan May Parkman. She was born Jan. 16, 1865 in the Good Hope community and was a lifelong resident there.
Her husband was a prominent farmer and businessman of Saluda County. Mrs. Burnett became a member of Good Hope Baptist Church at an early age and rendered the church and community a lifetime of faithful service.
She is survived by two daughters and five sons, Mrs. J. Leo Dubose, Bishopville; Mrs. J. O. Butler, Chappells; Legrand G. and W. G. Burnett, Callison; S. T. Burnett, Greenville; Hoyt C. and D. P. Burnett, Saluda; one sister Mrs. J. P. Butler, Saluda; and one brother, W. E. Parkman, Ninety Six; also 19 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted by the pastor, the Rev. S. W. Avery assisted by the Rev. H. B. White and burial will be made in the family plot in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dwight H. Smith, James O. Butler, S. T. Burnett,Jr., William C. and Thomas Burnett, A.L. Wallace, Richard Kibler, J. R. Herions and Smith White, Jr.
