D. S. Burnett, Special to the State
Greenwood, February 17, - D. S. Burnett, 72, prominent merchant and farmer of the May's Cross section of Saluda county, died at his home Friday after a long illness. The funeral services were conducted at the Good Hope Baptist Church Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Burnett was born and reared in old Edgefield County and spent his entire life in the community in which he died. He was a prosperous farmer and successful merchant, and for a number of years served as deacon of his church, later being made an honorary officer.
Besides his widow Mr. Burnett is survived by three daughters and five sons; Mrs. J. O. Butler, Ninety Six; Mrs. G. W. Smith, Saluda, and Miss Sue May Burnett, a teacher in the Ward high school; D. P. Burnett, Saluda; S. T. Burnett, principal of the Warrenville grammar school; W. G. Burnett, Sanford, Fla; H. C. Burnett, teacher in the Senior High School of Columbia, and LeGrand Burnett, a student at Edisto academy. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. J. R. Devore, and one brother, John Burnett, both of Greenwood.
