LONG RESIDENT OF TAMPA, DIES;

Mrs. Charity Hope Van Petten, 76, widow of Jacob Van Petten died at her home on Bull Frog Creek Thursday night. Henry Charity "Chattie" Hope VanPetten was the daughter of David Hope and Frances Sophia Pyles of Brooksville, Hernando Co., FL. According to records of the family (including the David Hope Bible), she was born 1 Jan. 1871 and died 31 March 1949.

Mrs. Van Petten was born in Brooksville, June 1, 1872. She lived there until 1897 at which time she moved to Port Tampa City where Mr. Van Petten was superintendent of docks for the old Plant System. After the Spanish-American War they moved to Tampa where she resided since.

She is survived by two sons, Henry Van Petten, Tampa, and E. Van Petten, Arcadia; a daughter, Mrs. Eloise Reynolds, 12 grandchildern and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Wilson Sammon Company Funeral Home with the Rev. G.W. Sellers of the Brandon Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry Van Petten, Jr., Tampa: Jake W. Van Petten, Arcadia; Seward Van Petten, Arcadia; Jacob Cox, Tampa: Johnnie Howard Tampa and Henry Howard, Tampa.
