Wife of William Henry Hancock. Daughter of Frances Sophia Pyles and David Hope who married in August 1842 and moved to Hernando Co. from Alachua Co., Territory of Florida. Matilda aka Tilly married William Henry Hancock and had two sons. After the second was born, she had her gown catch on fire and died of her burns. Her eldest sibling, Charlotte Cecelia Hope Seward Washington took the infant son with her to Livingston, LA and raised him. William Henry's sister or sister-in-law raised the first born son.
