Rev. Fletcher Sutherland was the son of Col. Andrew and Noami (Cooley) Sutherland. He was the husband of Mary (Brink) Sutherland. He was the father of The Seven Sutherland Sisters. They were world-famous for their magnificent long hair, which reportedly had a collective length of 37 feet. Rev. Sutherland was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: Genesee (Western New York/now Upper New York) Conference 1839 Discontinued 1842 Genesee Conference 1843 Discontinued 1845. He subsequently went into politics. He was a speaker at the 1856 Presidential Campaign and attended Pres. Buchanan's Inaugural on March 4, 1857.

SUTHERLAND.--Fletcher Sutherland, the father of the Seven Sutherland Sisters, died at his country home near Lockport, New York, yesterday of paralysis. He was 73 years of age. He was a prominent Methodist minister at one time, but left the pulpit as soon as his daughters took to the stage.
