OHIO PIONEER
A BIOGRAPHY OF DAVID OVERMIER, by Laurence Overmire, Aug. 2008:
David Overmier was born June 21, 1801, the son of Peter Obermeier and Mary Eva Hennig. It is not clear if he was born after the family arrived in Obermeyerstettle (in English "Overmyertown") or just before. Subjected to the considerable hardships of pioneer life as he grew up, he nonetheless probably enjoyed the privilege of an education at the school in Overmyertown (later called New Reading) and was able to attend the Lutheran church there, both built by his father.
David's mother Eva died in 1823 and on March 1, 1824, his father married a second time--to Sarah Harnet, the widow of John Harnet. A few months later, on Oct. 28, 1824, at the age of 23, David married his step-sister Elizabeth Harnet, Sarah's daughter from her first marriage. Elizabeth gave birth to ten children before she died at the age of 43 in 1851.
David was a wagon maker. He lived in New Reading until he passed away at the age of 72, March 16, 1874, fifty-one years to the day that his mother passed away. He was buried in the New Reading Cemetery.
