After Phoebe's death, Bob married Nannie Dessie Fortenberry on Aug. 21, 1959.

OBITUARY FROM THE BEAUMONT ENTERPRISE: ROBERT "BOB" OATES
ROBERT "BOB" OATES, 96, of Woodville died Saturday at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville with burial in Camp Ground Cemetery near Woodville. A lifelong resident of Woodville, he was a retired farmer. Survivors include sons, Elmer Ray Oates of Woodville and E. L. Oates of Carthage; daughters, Shirley Woodcock of Center and Lanell Choate of Carthage; a brother, L. E. Oates of Woodville; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
