Mr. J.P. Thurmond, a prominent citizen of Ward One, Bienville Parish, died at his home in Mt. Lebanon Sunday, having been stricken with paralysis several days previous. Many sorrowing friends and relatives gathered at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Monday afternoon where a very impressive service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. J.C. Cox, assisted by Rev. Young of Arcadia. Beautiful quartets were rendered by Messrs. Leighton Aubrey and Byron Cox and Mesdames J.C. Cox and H.A. Sutton. The service was concluded at the cemetery. The grave was covered with flowers, the [blurred] remembrances of friends.
The deceased is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. S.M. Pate of Mt. Lebanon, Mrs. H.E. Morrow of Arcadia, and Mrs. Ferguson of California; one son, Mr. C.H. Thurmond of Shreveport; several grandchildren; two brothers, Mr. J.C. Thurmond of Shreveport and Mr. John Thurmond of Mt. Lebanon.
