In May 1896, an impromptu musical was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. Keeffe on a Sunday evening. The performers were: Mrs. Josie Keeffe, Prof. H. Schlott, J. T. Dussell, William Hartvig and Mr. A. L. Francis and son, Leon Francis. Mr. D. McIntosh sang in his rich, full tenor voice. The event was repeated the following Tuesday in the parlors of the City Hotel.

In July 1912, Charles Keeffe arrived in Sonora for a brief visit at his childhood home. He and his brother, Thomas, had been hotel keepers for the leading American hotel, the St. Francis, in the City of Mexico. In April 1892, the hotel was a prosperous business, but in 1912, Mexico was experiencing troublous times making the business unprofitable. For that reason, the brothers moved to San Francisco. The brothers were well mannered people who had many friends happy to see them whenever they came to visit.
