Evalena Herndon 92, died October 4, 1988, at the High Plains Retirement Village, Lakin. Born Evalena Gragg April 26, 1896, at Northboro, Iowa, she married Harry H. Herndon December 8, 1917, at Syracuse. He died January 22, 1962. A homemaker, she was resident of Syracuse for 79 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the IXL Sunday School Class, the Syracuse Social Club, and the Rebekah Lodge, all of Syracuse Survivors: son, Harry H. Jr., daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Frazer, Kendall, ,; brother, Albert Jr., Reno, Nevada; sisters, Marjorie Hess, Reno, Fern Hobert, Williams, Arizona, Delphia Huffman, Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. . She was preceded in death by a son, Olen Bayless and two daughters, Violet Bayless and Betty Herndon. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, the Rev. Ed Wilcox. Burial will be in the Syracuse Cemetery. Memorial may go the High Plains Retirement Village, Lakin, or to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
