Barton B. Shore, a resident of Maddensville for many years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alva Varner, of Peru Lack, in Shade Valley, Juniata County, on Tuesday, January 27, 1942, at 2:30 p.m. after an extended illness.
A son of John Washington and Rachel (Ramsey) Shore.
He was born in Huntingdon County on November 9, 1856. At the time of death, he was aged 85 years, two months, and eighteen days.
Mr. Shore was a carpenter by trade and spent all his life in Huntingdon County. He worked as a brickyard cleaning in the summer and stayed home in the winter to help his wife and their children. He played a fiddle and loved his pets. They lived in a four room log cabin in Maddensville, PA.
He joined the Church of God in Locke's Valley, later having attended services at Walnut Grove Church of God.
He was united in marriage with Sarah Jane Locke, who died April 15, 1935.
Surviving are the following children: Irene, Mrs. Jerry Mentzer, Burnt Cabins; Julia, Mrs. Howard Walters, Altoona; Mae, Mrs. M. A. Reihart, Huntingdon; Edith, Mrs. John Clark, Mount Union; Mrs. Alva Varner, Peru Lack; B.H. Shore, Mount Union; Alice (error should be Olive), Mrs. William Taylor, McVeytown; Mrs. Dessie Carl, Kistler; Dorsey M. Shore, address unknown; Daisy, Mrs. Blain Ramsey and Calvin Shore, both of Shirleysburg; Ira W. Shore, Maddensville. One daughter, Mrs. B.F. Varner, died Oct 1928. He had one sister, Mrs. John Yetter of Peru Lack. There are seventy-one grandchildren, one hundred sixteen great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Walnut Grove Church of God. Interment will be made in the Maddensville Methodist Cemetery by Green's Funeral services. Friends may call at the Varner home in Peru Lack until noon Friday.
