James, son of Robert Alexander & ___ (Gibson) Alexander was born in Air Township, Bedford Co.,(now part of Fulton Co.)Pennsylvania. He married Mary Gibson Hamil, Oct 17, 1809, probably in PA. They lived almost on the PA-Ohio border. Petersburg, Columbiana Co, Ohio & Enon Valley, PA) Several of their children were born there.

In 1833 they moved to Bedford Township,Cuyahoga Co.,Ohio, where the rest of their children were born. They built a log cabin where they lived until they could build a larger home. This home on Alexander Road, named for the family, was at the top of a steep hill; it became known as "The Alexander Farm." Several generations of the family lived there.
James died there 1 July 1863, aged 82 years, and was buried in the Northfield cemetery. He and Mary were the parents of a large family: Robert, Andrew, Ann S., Allan Hamil, David Brown, Harvey, Thomas Liggett, Elizabeth J., Joseph, Rachael C.,and Mary E.Alexander.
(Their son Harvey Alexander, born Sept 15, 1825 and died Dec 26, 1903, is buried in Baxter Springs Cemetery, Baxter Springs, Cherokee Co, Kansas)

James served in the Ohio militia, 1st regiment, War of 1812.
