Robert Alexander, probably the son of James Alexander, was christened 15 Sept 1757 at Renfrew St. Presbyterian/Unitarian Church, Liverpool, Lancastershire, England. He came to America in 1760 at age 5. Settled in Big Cove, Bedford Co.,PA. (So stated in his Rev.War Pension application in 1833.Pension #11970) His Revolutionary War service included:
1776-As a Private in a batallion of Bedford Co. volunteers formed at Princeton, NJ
1778-As a Sgt. in the Bedford Co. Militia, as an Indian Scout
1779 -As a spy and scout with the Bedford Co. Militia to protect against Indian raids.
(Note: This part of Bedford Co.has been in Fulton Co. since about 1850-52.

After the Rev. War, Robert returned to Air Twp., married ca 1779, __GIBSON. They had 9 children: Martha 1780-1837, marr.Frances(sic)MILLER; James 1781-1863, settled in Bedford Twp, Cuyahoga Co, Ohio, marr. Mary Gibson HAMIL ;Isabella 1784-1856; Robert Gibson Alexander 1786-1844, marr.Sarah ADAMS; Ann 1790-1881, marr.Hugh ALEXANDER, settled in Fairfield, Jefferson Co, IA; Andrew 1793-1870, marr.Eliza BIVENS; Margret 1795-1877, marr. James CONNER; Sarah 1799-1849;Samuel 1802-1868, marr.Catherine SMITH & Margaret DICKSON.
In 1798, Robert owned 335 acres,valued at $335, 1 dwelling, #10.
In 1808, he was a farmer in Air Twp, with 350 warrented acres, 1 horse, 2 cows. Valuation $200, his tax was $1.33.
He died July 25,1844, was buried in Big Spring graveyard, near McConnellsburg, PA. The monument for his daughter Margaret Conner is beside his monument.

Gravesite Details

Wooden marker very difficult to read, in 1989. By 2000, had completely deteriated amd was replaced with a monument, by some of Robert's descendants.
