William "Bill" Blagg, 70, of Chestnut Knob Road, Layland, died June 17, 2008, at Veteran's Medical Center, Beckley, with his family by his side.
Born Dec. 11, 1937, at Mt. Nebo, he was the son of the late William I. Blagg Sr. and Martha Sarah King Blagg. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Fox and Mae Blagg; and three brothers, Jim, Lee and Herb Blagg.
Bill was a U. S. Army veteran, a long time volunteer for the Danese Ambulance Service, a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and a timber cutter.
Surviving: his wife of 42 years, Drema Mae Graham Blagg of Layland; daughters, Sherry Hodakowski (Freeman) of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Megan Blagg of Ft. Campbell, Ky., and Elizabeth Hill (Kevin) of Beckley; sons, William E. Blagg of Beckley and Michael Blagg (Stephanie) of Layland; a daughter-in-law, Lorie Brown of Martinsburg; sisters, Connie Garten of Danese, Kay Hunter of Meadow Bluff, Kendall Lane of Greensboro, N.C., Juanita Self of Louisville, Ky., and Betty Stump of Rainelle; brothers, Carl Blagg of Danese and Dennis Blagg of Big Stone Gap, Va.; grandchildren, Samantha Cushard, Sabrina Arevalo, Jason Cushard, Christopher Brown, Dylan Hodakowski, Becky Blagg, Josh Hodakowski, Hayden Blagg, Bethany Turner and Haley Turner; great-grandchildren, Jazmine and Dominic Arevalo; several nieces and nephews; and many long time friends in the Danese and Layland area.
Service was June 21 at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with the Rev. William Lilly officiating. Burial followed at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
