North - John L. Harley, 39, of Neeses died today at 11:55 a.m. at State Park after an illness of several months. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. from Beaver Creek Baptist Church near Neeses. They will be conducted by the Rev. Mary Sue Evans. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He was born in Orangeburg County and had lived there his entire life. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sleddy Chavis Harley of Neeses; his mother, Mrs. Neelie Williams of Denmark; nine sisters, Mrs. Ruth Spires, Mrs. Rosa Nell Spires, and Mrs. Vivian Young, all of Springfield, Mrs. Julia Baughman and Mrs. Eula Lee Gartman of Livingston, Mrs. Mary Ellen Spires of Swansea, Mrs. Annie Mae Spires of Orangeburg, Mrs. Madge Hutto of Neeses, and Miss Lou Ellen Harley of Augusta; one brother, Jesse Harley of Denmark; a number of nieces and nephews. © The State, Columbia, SC, 11 Apr 1951
