Mary Ellen Spires, 84, of North, died Thursday, March 28, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Lucas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Joey Mitchum, Anthony Mitchum, Greg Price, Chris Price, Zach Coulter, Lex Coulter, Ricky Jeffcoat, and Mike Dennis.

Mrs. Spires was born in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late Jasural "Pet" and Rebecca "Neeley" Hutto Harley. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She was employed in the garment industry for over 40 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Marion Judson Spires.

Survivors include four daughters: Margaret Lee, Sarah Wannamaker, Carolyn Keller, and Faye Coulter; grandchildren: Sherrie Dennis, Tina Lee Hoffman, Sandi Zurlo, Greg Price, Joey Mitchum, Chris Price, Anthony Mitchum, Renee Jeffcoat, Lex Coulter, and Zach Coulter; great-grandchildren: Candiace Tygar Cox, Sarah Gabrielle Zurlo, Judson Nakoa Zurlo, Hobie Dennis, Marion Isabella Jeffcoat, Sawyer Jensen Jeffcoat, and Tina Marie Hoffman, Mika Mitchum, Devon Price, Xavier Price, Jessica Price, Cruise Coulter, and Dominik Muller; a great- great-grandchild, Charles Cox,; special niece, Wilhelminia Logan; and special nephews: Ed Harley, Jimmy Lee Young, Robert Young, and Roger Young. She was predeceased by eight sisters; three brothers; and a grandchild, Paula Renee Mitchum.


The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North (www.mcalhanyfh.com) and other times at the home, 113 Jones Bridge Road, North.
