Ruth Dickerson Schneider was the ninth child born to Edgar Brownell Dickerson and Margaret Sarah Skelton Dickerson on October 20, 1901 in Tyrone, Texas County, Missouri. Times were hard for the Dickerson family in those days. Ruth's brother Archie recalled that most of time they did not have shoes, even in the winter. They would tie "gunnie" sacks around their feet to go to school. As in most families during that era, the children played a big part in the family's every day survival. The Boys worked on the farm and the girls took jobs cooking for harvest crews for neighboring farmers. As the family grew and their economic situation improved, they moved to Herington, Kansas where Ruth met and married her first husband, Guy Wallace Funk. He was a successful businessman in Herington. Guy was killed in a hunting accident only seven years after they were married. As a teenager and young adult, Ruth, was very fashion conscience. She loved shoes and hats and had many of them.
She married Edwin Schneider in 1934. They lived in several locations due to Ed's line of work before they settled in Oklahoma City. Ruth was a talented homemaker and wonderful mother to their two sons, Gary and Johnny Schneider. She loved gardening and cooking and she was the best at both. She enjoyed entertaining her family regularly especially on birthdays and holidays. The 4th of July was always a great time with homemade ice cream and red velvet cake. The grandchildren were always excited to see what kind of cake she would make for their birthdays. She is so very much missed by all of her family.
