Avery Rosewell was the fourth child and third son born to William Jefferson and Martha Altena Galloway Crites. He was born Christmas Day in 1892. He was to have one younger sibling, a sister.

Rosewell was born in Bollinger County, Missouri, and was to live his life there. He married Sarah "Sadie" Ellen Hahn on April 6, 1913. Her family was also from Bollinger County, Missouri. Rosewell and Sadie were to raise four children together.

Rosewell attended Will Mayfield College and taught school in Bollinger County for 11 years.

He later owned Crites Meat Market in Lutesville, Missouri. He worked and retired as a butcher. He also was a farmer.

Rosewell loved to tell family stories and was a good story teller. His stories would bring laughter to all who heard them. He was a man of faith and belonged to the Church of God.
