Bill's father was a farmer and taught his children to love and work the land. Bill lived his entire life in Bollinger County, Missouri. Following in his father's footsteps Bill became a farmer.
Oral family history tells us he was a very tall man. Some say he measured 7'4" and others say 6'4". Either way, it was enough to earn him the nickname of "Big Bill."
In December of 1893, he married Martha Altana Galloway. They were married in the home of her family by a Justice of the Peace. Bill and Martha were to have five children before his untimely death. He is believed to have died of typhoid after a two week illness in 1901.
He is buried in the Crites Cemetery near Marble Hill. This cemetery is located on a portion of what was the family farm.
William was the father of William 'Enos'; Martin Luther; Bertha A.; Avery 'Rosewell'; and Sarah 'Sadie' Adeline Crites.
