MAN, 46, DIES AS AUTO DIVES OVER HILLSIDE

LAWRENCE DRANE'S BODY DISCOVERED IN WRECKED CAR

A 46-year old Calcutta area steelworker, apparently, killed late night when his car plunged over the hill section of Smithferry - Calcutta Road was discovered in the auto this morning about 9.

Lawrence Drane of the Old Fredicktown Road, apparently was fatally injured when his sedn went off the edge of the roadway and some 70 yards down the hillside while he was returning from work.

St. Clair Constable Lester McElhaney said the car was on its wheels, but had struck a couple of small trees, breaking them off.

The site is at the lower section of the hill leading from Pennsylvania Route 68, and not far from an old dump.

Police said his wife telephoned to officials this morning, reporting her husband had not returned from his job.
Shortly afterwrd, Bob Barker of near Longs Run reported the auto had been spotted down the hillside, Constable McElhaney said.

An inspector of the Cold Strip Department at the Midland Works of the Crucible Steel Company., Mr. Drane was born in East Liverpool, son of the late Harry and Minnie Cornell Drane.

A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Longs Run United Presyterain Church and Steelworkers Local 1212.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Pauline Green Frane, , and two sons, Lawrence A. Drane Jr. and Harry R. Drane; all at home; two daughters Mrs. Sharrel (Linda Lee) Smith of East Liverpool and Mrs William (Bonnie Lynn) Kidder of Ashville, Ohio; two brothers Harry Drane of East Liverpool and M. Sgt. Paul Drane, with the Army at Ft. McClelan, Ala., four sisters, Mrs. Frank (Virginia) Buckley and Mrs. Albert (Helen) Ward, both of East Liverpool, Mrs. Vernon Diehl of Uhrichsville and Mrs. John (Charlaine) Wilkinson of Stow and three grandchildren.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Russell-Shepard of the Longs Run Church. Burial will be in the Riverview cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday afternoon and evening.
