W.R. DRANE, RETIRED CITY FIRE FIGHTER, TAKEN AT 61

William R. Drane, 663 Walnut Street a retired fireman died suddenly at his home early Sunday. He was 61.

Mr. Drane served on the fire department from 1928 until his retirement on April 1, 1947. He was an honorary member of the Local 24, Inernatioanl Association of Fire Fighters.
Mr. Drane first named to the department on Feb. 15, 1928. He was furloghed on June 5, 1936, because of lack of funds, but was returned to duty on Jan. 1, 1937.

In recent years, Mr. Drane had been employed at the D.M. Ogilvie & Company store.

Patrolman Ronald J. Brookes was dispatched to the Drane home at 2:09 a.m. yesterday after Mrs. Drane called headquarters and reported her husband was ill.

Officer Brookes said he found Mr. Drane lying alongside the bed. He notified headquaters, which summoned an ambulance. Mr. Drane was pronounced dead on arrival at City Hospital.

A veteran of World War I, Mr. Drane was born here October 15, 1902 and lived here all his life.

He was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church and its board of Trustees and a member and past commander of Vetrans of Foreign Wars Post 66. He also was a past commander of the Columbiana County VFW.

Besides his widow, Mrs. Naomi Drane, at home, he is survived by a son, William R. Drane of East Liverpool, three brothers, Harry R. Drane of Ft. McCleland, Ala., four sisters, Mrs. Virginia Buckley and Mrs. Helen Ward, both of East Liverpool, Mrs. Eleanor Diehl of Urichsville and Mrs. Charmaine Wilkinson of Munroe Falls, Ohio, and four grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Irwin Jennings. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
