Jesse James "Jess" Cannon was born on Apr. 15, 1898 on a farm near Liberty, Casey Co., Kentucky. He was the son of James Harrison "Jim" Cannon (1854-1928) and Polly Anne Young (1868-1945). His parents were married on Jan. 18, 1883 in Lincoln Co., KY and Jess was the seventh of their ten known children.

Jess's father, James, was born in the Sequache Valley in Tennessee. He was the son of John B. Cannon (1830-1915) and Mary Ann Lay (1832-1905), both also born in Tennessee. Both of Jess' parents died in Casey Co., KY where they are buried there in the Brush Creek Cemetery.

Jess's mother, Polly, was born in Lincoln Co., KY. She was the daughter of Hezekial K. Young (1846-1925) and Eleen Elizabeth "Bessie" Yocum (abt 1841-1900). Hezekial was born in Lee Co., Virginia, died in Liberty, Casey Co., KY and is buried there in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Bessie was born in South Fork, Lincoln Co., KY and died in Lincoln Co., KY. Her burial site is currently unknown.

In 1920, Jess married Mary Adline "Susie" Schlachter (1900-1998). She was born on a farm outside Junction City in Boyle Co., KY. Her parents were Joseph Lee "Joe" Schlachter (1878-1951) and Mary Davidson (1878-1935). She was the 2nd of their five known children. Susie's father, Joe, had immigrated to America with his parents in 1890 from the Grand Duchey of Baden (now a German state). Susie's mother was born in Mt. Washington, Bullitt Co., KY. Both died in Junction City, Boyle Co., KY where they are buried in the Junction City Cemetery.

Jess and Susie were married for 34 years and had eight known children. Their children were James Samuel Cannon (1921-1921), Mary Frances Cannon (1924- ), Margie Mae Cannon (1927- ), Ernest Lee Cannon (1930-1988), Sherman Riley Cannon (1932-1969), Earlene Faye Cannon (1935- ), Joseph Henry "Joe" Cannon (1937-1979) and William Ray "Bill" Cannon (1941-1985).

Jess died from lung cancer on Nov. 8, 1954 in the Danville, KY hospital at the age of 56. He is buried in the Junction City Cemetery in Boyle Co., KY.

Jess's wife, Susie, lived over 40 years after his death, eventually marrying widower, Dave Thompson (1898-1989). When Dave died in 1989 at the age of 91 he was buried in Versailles Cemetery located in Versailles, Woodford Co., KY, next to his first wife, Bertha Lawhorn (1902-1965).

Susie died on Feb. 7, 1998 in Danville at the age of 97. She is buried next to her first husband, Jess, in the Junction City Cemetery. All five of their sons (James, Ernest, Sherman, Joe and Bill) are also buried in this cemetery.
