Mary Frances Cannon was born on Aug. 18, 1924 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky. Her parents had a small apartment there located on Main Street. She was the daughter of Jesse James "Jess" Cannon (1898-1954) & Mary Adeline "Susie" Schlacter (1900-1998), both buried in the Junction City Cemetery located in Junction City, Boyle Co., KY.

Frances' father, Jess, was born in Liberty, Casey Co., KY. He was the son of James Harrison Cannon (1854-1928) and Polly Anne Young (1868-1945). Frances' paternal grandfather, James, was born in Tennessee and died (cancer) in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY. Her paternal grandmother, Polly Anne , was born in Lincoln Co., KY, died in Scott Co., KY and is buried in the Brush Creek Cemetery located in Casey Co., KY.

Frances' mother, Mary, was born in Junction City. Boyle Co., KY. She was the daughter of Joseph Lee "Joe" Schlacter (1876-1951) and Mary Davidson (1878-1935). Frances' maternal grandfather, Joe, was an immigrant from the Grand Duchy of Baden (1806-1917). A Duchy was a territory ruled by a Duke or Duchess. Baden merged with Wurttemberg in 1952 to form the current German state of Baden-Wurttemberg.

Joe arrived in America in 1890 and in 1896 married Frances' maternal grandmother, Mary, in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY. She was born in Bullitt Co., KY. At one time their farm in Boyle County was located where the Boyle County Game Farm is now located, near Junction City. Both Joe and Mary are also buried in the Junction City Cemetery.

On Mar. 2, 1944 Frances married Eugene "Gene" (Stephens) Stevens (1924-1978) in Parksville, Boyle Co., KY, while he was home on leave from the Navy. It was during the latter part of WWII (after his marriage to Frances) that Gene legally changed the spelling of his last name from Stephens to Stevens. The rest of his family continued to use the latter spelling (Stephens) of their surname.

Gene was born in Parksville, Boyle Co., KY on Tennessee Ridge. He was the son of Balford Henry Stephens Sr. (1898-1964) and Margaret Leona Wilson (1907-1954). Both were born in Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.), KY and are buried in Wilson Cemetery (#4) on Rolling Fork Road (Hwy 39), just behind and below Tennessee Ridge.

Gene's paternal grandparents were William Whitmill Stephens (1869-1956) and Sarah Jane Wilson (1873-1937), both born near present day Isham in Scott Co., TN. Her grandparents had migrated to Boyle County (Parksville area) from McCreary County in 1912 where they purchased a hillside farm on Tennessee Ridge. William is buried in Warren Co., Ohio where he had been living with his son & family. Sarah Jane is buried in the Wilson Cemetery (#4) in Boyle Co., KY.

Frances and Gene were married for 34 years and had four children. They were Larry Eugene Stevens (1946- ), Gary Franklin Stevens (1947- ), Rev. Stanley Wayne Stevens (1950-2012) and Arnold Ray Stevens (1957-2001).

Gene died from heart problems on June 7, 1978 in Lexington (hospital), Fayette Co., KY, at the age of 53. Heart problems ran in the Stephens family.

Frances died on April 24, in a Danville nursing home, KY at the age of 97. She and her husband's burial sites lie side-by-side and near her parents and siblings. At the time of her death she was the oldest living member of the Alum Springs First Church of God in Boyle County and had been one of it's founding members.
