April 23, 1974
Leonard C. Goltry, son of Frank and Mary Wright Goltry, was born on October 29, 1887, and departed this life at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital, Chariton, on April 18, 1974, at the age of 86.
He spent most of his life near his birthplace northeast of Russell, in Cedar Township. On September 2, 1908, he united in marriage with Zella Vinsel. Five children came to bless this home, two dying in infancy.
On February 3, 1909, he united with the Russell Methodist Church and remained a faithful member throughout his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sons, his wife Zella, one grandson, Grayson Moore: a brother, Wright Goltry: and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Thompson.
He is survived by his three daughters, Helen Moore of Russell; Lois Laing of Osceola; and Lenore Thomson of Arlington, Va.; three sons-in-law, Leo Moore, Elwood Thompson and T.J. Lang; five grandchildren; Mrs. Karen Hoffman, of Stillwater, Minn.; Paul and Jim Thomson of Arlington, Va.; Larry Thomson of Culpepper, Va.; Mrs. Kay Pryxell of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren, one brother; Carl Goltry of Russell; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted Rev. Wauneita McConnell at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 21, at the Woodman Funeral Home. Interment was in the Russell Cemetery.
