Elijah Alexander Littrell died Sunday evening at his home in Medford at the age of 80. He was born on February 8, 1847 near Florence in Lauderdale County, Alabama to John and Maranda (Howard) Littrell. The family moved to Carroll County, Arkansas when he was young and as a 17 year boy, he joined the Union Army, Company 'M' Missouri 16th Cavalry, during the Civil War. He first married Caroline Qualls on January 18, 1867 in Berryville, Arkansas, and to this union were born six children, three of whom survive. She passed away in California. He married a second time to Rachel Catherine Rush on September 19, 1880, and to this union were born two children, one of whom survives. She passed away on April 14, 1887 in Raton, New Mexico. He married a third time to Belle Everett Phillips on January 22, 1888 in Berryville, Arkansas, and to this union were born seven children, five of whom survive. He had been a farmer and stock rancher near Raton, New Mexico for 39 years before moving to Medford in 1920. He is survived by his wife, Belle; his sons, Donald Bennett Littrell of Chicago, Illinois, Earl Knox Littrell and Elijah Alexander Littrell, Jr., both of Medford, Hiram Riley Littrell of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Isaac Phillips Littrell of Copco, California; his daughters, Amanda Hughes of Solano, New Mexico, Anna Arizona Stubblefield of Clayton, New Mexico, Edith Rice of Hugoton, Kansas, and Florence Ethel Chadwick of Portland; his brother, George Dallas Littrell of Raton, New Mexico; his sisters, Frances Emily Russell of Berryville, Arkansas and Matilda Jane Bobo of Boynton, Oklahoma; thirty two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be announced later by Perl Funeral Home.
