James "Jim" C. Parkhurst, 83, of Eldon died Friday, May 3, 2008, in Osage Beach. He was born May 9, 1924, in Ulman to Robert Dale and Ida May Burks Parkhurst. He married Betty Whittle, Aug. 25, 1945, in Stockton, Calif.; she died Aug 2, 2004.

Mr. Parkhurst served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart and several other honors. He worked for Cole Quarry's Company in Jefferson City for 48 years, where he drove heavy equipment until he retired. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Christian Church near Tuscumbia.

Surviving him are three daughters, Mary Ekstam, Shirley Hawk and Sharon Barnhart, all of Eldon; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Hendricks of Eldon. He also was preceded in death by his son, Larry Parkhurst.

Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia, with the Rev. Gene Edwards officiating. Burial was under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon.
