He was born July 15, 1913 in Havice Valley, Mifflin County, to the late Herbert C. and Amanda C. (Romig) Wagner.
He was a self-employed farmer until his retirement in 1977; served as Walker Twp. supervisor for 30 years and served on the Juniata County Planning Commission; and a member of Centre Lutheran Church, Mifflintown RR 2, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, and Walker Grange 786.
He was the widower of M. Erma (Hackenberger) Wagner, who died July 15, 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Samuel R. of Elliottsburg RR 1 and James D. of Mifflintown RR 2; a son-in-law, James L. McClure of Dalmatia RR 1; a brother, Benjamin W. of Thompsontown RR 1; two sisters, Ruth P. Shank of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, and Rachael R. Sauers of Levittown; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles; a daughter, Nancy C. McClure, who died Nov. 11, 2002; three brothers, George, Paul and James; and three sisters, Ada Bashore, Esther Ferrell and Miriam Henry.
Services were held June 16 in his church with the Rev. Louise L. Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown RR 4.
