Tom W. Burgess, born August 20, 1861, was the youngest child of William and Helen (Galloway) Burgess. On February 1, 1893 Tom was united in marriage to Theo Hendrick and to this union were born: William Gale Burgess, Amelia Estelle Burgess, Hendrick Gage Burgess, Earl Burgess and Theo Alice "Dolly" Burgess. In 1908 the Burgess family moved to western Kansas and located on a farm 12 miles north of Ingalls. All of his life Mr. Burgess was interested in livestock and until failing health and local conditions forced him to reduce his herd he was one of the larger operators in the territory.
