Earle Burgess, born April 3, 1904, was the youngest son of Tom W. and Theo (Hendrick) Burgess. Earle came to Kansas in 1908 with his parents, two brothers and two sisters. On May 18, 1930 Earle married Hazel Floy Kinnamon and to this union was born Shirley Anne Burgess. He received his education in the schools near and in Ingalls. Earle attended Fort Hays State Teachers College where he earned a Life Certificate for teaching and taught in an eight grade country school for two years before joining the Cimarron National Bank in Cimarron, KS. The bank went under in the depression and he then worked for Mobil Oil Company as their local agent. He was transferred to Garden City, KS and lived there for a year before transferring to Standard Oil Co. of Indiana which allowed the family to move to Montezuma, KS where he lived until his death. Earl farmed, ran cattle and later became interested in the oil leasing business. He and Floy traveled all over the U.S. and Canada making friends and renewing acquaintances with relatives during his work as a leasing agent.
