J. Fields, 87 Dies Feb. 25, Rites Feb. 28
A graveside service was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Crawfordsville Union Cemetery for 87-year-old Jim Fields of Crawfordsville, who passed away last Friday (Feb. 25) at his home.
Steckley-Tracewell Funeral Home of Sweet Home had charge of arrangements.
Mr. Fields was born April 15, 1896, at Mable. While still a small child, he came to Crawfordsville with his parents. He has resided there since.
He was a logger all of his life, until retirement, except for the period of time he served with the U.S. Army during World War I.
He was married on Feb. 24, 1940, at Tucson, Ariz. to Hazel Lowe, who preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1980.
Mr. Fields is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Grace Kelley of McCall, Ida., Mrs. Dorothy Dolby of Sweet Home, and Mrs. Helen Ray of Crawfordsville; as well as two sons, Terry Fields of Tigard, and Bill Brown of Oak Harbor, Wash.
One sister, Mrs. Eva Andrews of Montana, also survives, as do 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Fields, on Dec. 14, 1934; and one daughter, Mrs. Velma Luella Roth, on Dec. 14, 1970.
Officiating during Tuesday's service was Elder Cleo Thompson.
Military rites were provided by Sweet Home Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3437.
