Mrs. Lula Mae Bird, 79, wife of Edel Bird, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at her home after being in failing health for the past several years.
She was born April 29, 1882, in the Holts Prairie community, a daughter of John and Lucinda (Kelley) Holmes. She married Edel Bird on October 29, 1902 in Du Quoin, IL.
She was a resident of Du Quoin proper for the past five years. Before that time she lived in rural Tamaroa. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Du Quoin.
Surviving are a daughter: Mrs. Truman (Hazel) Kennedy, of Du Quoin; four sons, Elvis Bird, of Lowell, IN.; Everett Lyle Bird, of Warrensburg, IL.; Eugene Harold and Lester Edel Bird, both of Du Quoin; a brother, Ed Holmes, of Du Quoin; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Schroeder Funeral Home with Rev. W. T. Branon officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Thursday.
