Everett was born near Du Quoin, IL, the son of Edel and Lula Mae (Holmes) Bird. He grew up on the family farm near Holts Prairie. Everett helped his father on the farm, slaughtering hogs, picking apples and any field work that needed to be done. In the 30's he began coming up to Maroa, IL, and working for John Streich on his farm. There he met John's daughter, Anna Maud Streich.
He married Anna Maud Streich on December 25, 1933 in Warrensburg, IL. They lived in a house near the Streich farm, for several years, before moving to a farm near Warrensburg, that was owned by John Streich. In 1937, they constructed a new home on that farm. This is where Everett and Maud would contine to farm and raise their children. To this union, two boys were born: John E and Carl L Bird.
Everett enjoyed hunting and fishing. He, along with others, help organize the Warrensburg Sportmans Club.
A tractor accident, in the 60's, contributed to Everett's failing health. He died on March 28, 1974, after battling ill health for some time. I remember Grandpa as a tall slender man with coal black hair. I just wish I could have had more time to get to know my Grandfather.
