Funeral services for Harold "Gene" Bird, of Du Quoin, who died at 12:25 p.m. July 29 in Marshall Browning Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Neal Memorial Chapel with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Rev. Fred E. Fieker will officiate.
A lifetime resident, he was born Dec. 11, 1911, in Perry County to Edel and Lula Mae (Holmes) Bird, both deceased. He married Dale Irene Miller on February 16, 1935 in Du Quoin, IL. She survives.
In failing health for several months, he had benn employed as a utility man for Central Illinois Public Service. He was a member of the Holts Prairie Baptist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons, Donald Eugene Bird of San Bernardino, CA., James Miller Bird of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jerry Dean Bird; one sister, Hazel Kennedy; three brothers, Elvis of Lowell, IN., Everett of Warrensburg, Il, and Lester Bird of Du Quoin. Three grandchildren als survive.
Friends may call at the Neal Memorial Chapel after 6 p.m. Thursday.
