TOM AND FLORENCE BLANKENSHIP FAMILY

Tom was born 11 June 1876, and Florence Wooldridge on 26 February 1883, both in Russell County, Kentucky, where they grew up across the Cumberland River from each other. Tom came to Belle Plaine about 1902 after two of his brothers- Nick and Aaron-had come and liked what they found. Florence
came in about 1905, and they were married 27 December 1905.

For several years they lived on the "Old Nelson Place" about one mile south of Railroad School, just across the river, southwest of Belle plaine. In 1918 they purchased the farm one mile south and one-quarter mile east of Belle Plaine, which was their home until their deaths.

Tom and Florence had three children-Paul who was born 19 November 1906, Ruth born 4 July 1908, and Woodieborn 19 June 1913. All three graduated from Belle Plaine High School.

Ruth married Russel Blankinship 30 June 1933. They had one son, David Roy, born 9 March 1940. They lived in Harlingen and McAllen, Texas, from 1946 until Russel's death in 1970. Ruth moved to Rockport, Texas to be near her son and his family. David works with the National audubon Society"s whooping crane program.

Tom engaged in farming his entire life and during the 1920's had large threshing crews. He always had a practical joke or trick to play on the unsuspecting. Uncle Tom and aunt Florence, as they were known to many, died just a year apart; Tom on 8 September 1969, and Florence on September 26, 1970. Both are buried in Belle Plaine Cemetery.
