Dortha "Dottie" Shoemaker,of Emmett, went to be with her Lord Sunday, July 27, 2003. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 31,2003 at the Emmett Cemetery. The procession will leave the Potter Funeral Chapel at 9:45 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Potter Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 from noon until 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 until 7 p.m.
Dottie was born March 9, 1921 in Coltman, Bonneville, ID, a daughter of Sidney Pitman and Nellie Fern Gough Pitman.
"Dottie," as she liked to be called, attended the first through third grade at Bramwell, then moved into Emmett where she attended school until her first year of high school, then moved to Big Lake, WA.
Dottie met her cowboy, Don Shoemaker, at the Liverty Dance Hall in Emmett when she was 18 years of age. They married in Payette in 1941, and lived in Emmett until buying a ranch in Horseshoe Bend in 1948. They resided there for 45 years, and raised two daughters, LaDonna and Ellen.
Her most important reason for living was caring for her family and serving the Lord. She taught Sunday School for 40 years and Vacation Bible School. She had a great love of children and wanted each one she came in contact with to get the right start in life.
She was always the first to help soneone out in their time of need with groceries and homemade loaves of bread to feed their families, with encouraging words and prayers. Dottie had a great sense of humor and loved to kid around with her grandchildren.
She was a volunteer and teacher's aide and caregiver at the Elk's for Handicapped Children. She was also a caregiver for Mr. and Mrs. Hoff senior of Horeshoe Bend until his death.
She was a loving and caring sister, mother and wife. Her parents: husband, Don Shoemaker; granddaughter, Cindy Hankins; grandson, Brian Goslin, and numerous sisters and brothers preceded her in death. Survivors' include daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and David Pratt of Emmett, ID, LaDonna and Glen Hankins fo Broken Arrow, OK, her sisters, Nora Buck of Kelso, WA, Alberta Swihart and Edna Fritch of Sedro Wooly, WA, Bernice Vine of Burlington, WA; three grandchildren, Paula Fennellle Burlington, NC, Scott Goslin of Salt Lake City, UT, Marty Hankins of Australia; eight great grandchildren, Brian Usrey, Hunter, Barrett and Riley Fennelle, and Jordon, Beau, Amber and new baby Hankins; and brothers and sister-in-laws, Dick and Evalyn Shoemaker, and Larry and Sonnie Shoemaker and numerous nieces and nephews.
