Barbara M. Eichler, 96, of Belvidere, IL passed away peacefully in her home on April 10, 2023.
She was born on November 13, 1926 near Yorkville, IL. The daughter of Vern and Ruth (Maier) Gates.
She attended high school in Genoa and worked for a dime store in Genoa and her father's implement shop in Genoa. She married Don H. Eichler, and lived on the Eichler family farm north of Genoa in 1946 and finally to Belvidere. Besides taking care of her family, she was very active at the Genoa United Methodist Church for many years. She loved to sew for her brothers and sisters, her own children, and make doll clothes and more. She was a great cook and did a lot of canning and freezing while living on the farm. She was creative in many ways.
She is survived by her daughters; Iona "Onie" (Jeff) Drewelow, Anne Eichler, Eileen (George) McDavid, Carol (Gary) Rich, and Charol McClenthen. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, sister; Della Evans of Beloit WI, brother in law; Kenneth Lawrence of Arkansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She is predeceased by her husband, Donald H. Eichler, son; D. Charles Eichler, brothers; Vernon, Lloyd and Bill Gates, sisters; Janice Hoeft, and Judy Lawrence.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Barbara's celebration of life will be held at the home of Onie and Jeff on June 12, 2023 between the hours of 1-4PM. It will be an open house celebration with light refreshments. Burial will be open to invitation at an extension of Genoa Cemetery on N. State Street.
