Alfred was the fourth born child of Ferdinand Mueller and Maria Mary Meier Mueller. He was born in Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa.
On June 5, 1917 he registered for the draft and states that he is a single, self employed "Farmer".
On June 6, 1917 he married Nettie Hazel Heacock at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa.
Alfred out lived Nettie by about 16 years. He never had a drivers license. After Nettie's death he began traveling to visit his children where he would spend about a month with each child. He was usually at Hazel's house at Thanksgiving, Lois' house for Christmas, then to Bob's House, etc... At first he would go back to Bellevue for a few months in the summer. Hilda Burnett and her husband Ray would take care of him in Bellevue. Hilda, although not related, was like a daughter to him.
He fell and broke his hip at Hazel's house, it took quite a while to get over. He later got sick at Lois' house and was hospitalized for a while. After that, it was decided to take him to his son Bill's house in California. His Grandson Gary Joseph Palmer flew with him on this trip as he was unable to fly alone. This is where he stayed the last couple of years of his life. He died there and his body was flown back to Iowa for burial.
