Joseph Abel, Sr., 72, well-known Leavenworth County farmer, died last night, April 22, 1935 at 7 o'clock at his home near Easton. He had been ill about four months.
Born at Weston, Mo., December 13, 1862, Mr. Abel had been a Leavenworth county resident for nearly seventy years. He was an active farmer until the time of his illness and was widely known throughout the community.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Behee, Marysville, Kas.; Mrs. Mary Lovelace, Atchison, Kas.; Mrs. Stella Thornburg, Easton, Kas.; Mrs. Rose Boden, Seattle, Wash.; three sons, Rudolph, Joseph,Jr., and John Abel, all of Easton; three brothers, W. H. Abel, Leavenworth; Charles Abel, Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister Mrs. Kate Hartwell, Leavenworth, and six grandchildren.
The body will be taken today from the Davis funeral church to the family residence where it will lie in state until funeral services. Arrangements had not been completed today.
