Cause of death: pneumonia; contributory, Bright's Disease. Buried, 2-16-1915, in St. Charles Cemetery, St. Mary's, Ky. Section B; Card 16; #264. The book about St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery, by Gerald Thompson, states that his marker reads, "Martin Mattingly b. 11-15-1867 d. 2-15-1915." "MARTIN MATTINGLY, aged forty-seven years, a well known farmer residing in the St. Mary's section of the county, died at his home Monday morning at 1 o'clock, of pneumonia, after an illness of only two or three days. The funeral services were held at St. Charles church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. J. Pike, and the interment was in St. Charles Cemetery. Mr. Mattingly was a member of the Catholic church and a man of genial disposition. He had many friends in the county, who will regret to learn of his death. Mr. Mattingly was twice married, his first wife being Miss Jessie Green, who died about ten years ago from the effects of a burn. His second wife was Miss Gertrude Downs, who with ten children survive, six by his former marriage and four by his second marriage. (NOTE: There were five from the first marriage and six by the second) He is also survived by four brothers, Pat, Kendrick, Ed and Lavell Mattingly, and three sisters, Mrs. B. J. Mattingly, Mrs. Joe C. Simms and Mrs. W. J. Wimsatt, all of this county. Buried, 2-16-1915, in St. Charles Cemetery, St. Mary's, Ky. Section B; Card 16; #264."
