"Elias Shatto was born in Sullivan county, Mo., Oct. 25, 1855, and died at his home in Humphreys on December 22, 1928.

On October 10, 1880, he was united in marriage to Sarah Connell and to this union was born ten children, six of whom preceded him in death -- four died in infancy, Zacharia at six years and Nora when six months old.

The four living children are Mrs. Jane Johnson and Fred H. Shatto of Humphreys, Mo., W. S. Shatto of Kansas City and J. A. Shatto of Milan, Mo. He also leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Franklin of Reger; fourteen grandchildren and a vast host of friends.

He joined the Sullivan First Presbyterian church about forty years ago and had since lived a consistent Christian life. He had been a patient sufferer for the past sixteen years, never seriously complaining and always trusting in God.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilson Bentley at Sullivan First Church on Sunday, Dec. 23, at one o'clock p.m., after which the remains were laid to rest in the Shatto cemetery." The Milan Republican (Milan, Missouri), December 27, 1928
