VERNON ROSCOE BYRUM
From The News-Gazette
Winchester, Indiana
Thursday, September 20, 1928
Vernon R. Byrum, a well-to-do farmer, southeast of Saratoga, committed suicide about 4 o’clock Friday morning, by hanging himself in a tobacco shed in the barn lot. He drove to Saratoga Thursday night and had a shave and hair cut. Early Friday morning his oldest son, Gerald, found a note on the dining room table. It was addressed to him and in it he told him to call some neighbors and have them go to the tobacco shed. The son went to the shed without calling in anyone and found his father’s body hanging by his neck. Despondence is thought to have prompted him to kill himself. He is survived by the widow, four children, three step-children, his parents, Mr. & Mrs. James Byrum, four sisters and four
brothers.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Saratoga Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. J. I. Lindsey, assisted by the Rev. G. H. Barker.
Burial took place in the Saratoga cemetery.
