Gladys M. Breshears, age 97, was born on August 4, 1910, the daughter of Buford and Elizabeth Smith Bybee at Preston, Missouri, and passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Warrensburg Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri.

She attended grade school at New Haven near Preston, Missouri and graduated from Urbana High School in 1929. She then attended Southwest Baptist College for two years and received her teaching certificate. She taught school in St. Clair and Hickory Counties.

On May 20, 1931, at Buffalo, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Lowell Breshears by Rev. Jackson, a Baptist minister. Unto this union, three sons, Voyn, Neil and Ronald were born. They made their home on a farm near Fristoe, Missouri and ran a dairy herd. In 1953, the family won the Balance Farming Award.

Gladys was an active lady in many ways. She was the director of the Benton County Council for four years and belonged to the Fristoe Saddle Club for many years. She was a member of the Fristoe Good Neighbor's Club for over 50 years and had served as President of the Club. She also served as reporter for the M.E.H.A. Benton County Council for four years.

In October of 1931, Gladys was saved at the old Avery Baptist Church and joined the New Home Missionary Baptist Church that year. She was very active in the church and had served as organist and pianist for the church since she was married and enjoyed singing and playing for many revivals and funerals. She also taught the Intermediate Sunday School Class for several years.

Gladys loved to entertain for her extension club, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her home. She and her husband, Lowell, had been graciously entertained by their children and grandchildren on their 50th and 60th Wedding anniversaries at the Fristoe Community Building. A large crowd helped them celebrate these two wonderful occasions. Since the passing of her husband, Lowell in December of 2002, Gladys has been a resident of Harmony Gardens in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell, and one son, Ronald Breshears, on May 13, 2004, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Breshears.

Surviving are two sons, Voyn Breshears, and his wife, Ann, of Lone Jack, Missouri, Neil Breshears, and his wife, Frances, of Stockton, Missouri, a daughter in law, Lonnis Breshears, of Knob Noster, Missouri, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Gladys will be sadly missed by her devoted family, loved ones, and friends.
