JACKSON — Asa Ray Clodfelter died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 90. Born in Bloomfield, Mo., Mr. Clodfelter spent most of his adult life in Vicksburg and Yazoo City before moving to Jackson in 1971. He was a general agent with American Public Life Insurance Company for more than 20 years and was recognized with numerous sales and service awards. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Couples Class Sunday school.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Ada Elizabeth Kelley Clodfelter; and a wife, Elizabeth Shibley Clodfelter. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Elaine Clodfelter; two sons, James Ray Clodfelter and David Shibley Clodfelter; three stepsons, Mike Rickels, Gary Rickels and Jeff Rickels; two sisters, Laura Ross and Mary Helsley; one brother, Amos Clodfelter; 10 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service.

Natchez Trace Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to French Camp Academy.
