David John Easterwood, 87, of Lafayette, died at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette at 10 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008.

Born March 11, 1921, in Lafayette, he was the eldest son of the late Herman "Doc" Easterwood and the late Amabel White Easterwood. He was a lifelong resident of Lafayette, attended St. Ann Grade School and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1939.

He married Rita A. Klinker on May 29, 1948, in Lafayette, and she survives.

He was a parishioner and an usher at St. Mary Cathedral and was a life member 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed singing and, while in high school, had leading roles in several musical productions. As a younger man he sang in the St. Ann Church choir.

He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific theater. He was a torpedoman first class. After his discharge, he worked at Tippecanoe Upholstery for 30 years. He later worked for Bank One, retiring in 1986. He served twice as manager of the K of C club.

Surviving are two children, Joseph A. Easterwood (wife: Sandy) of Oak Hill, Va., and Mary R. FitzSimons of Lafayette, and a brother, Ronald Easterwood of Greene-ville, Tenn.

Also surviving are a granddaughter, Krista M. Haubner (husband: Larry) of Hamilton, Ohio; and 3 stepgranddaughters: Dawn Miller, Katherine Wolf (husband: Mark), and Jennifer Burrell (husband: Dan), all of the Maryland and Northern Virginia area. There are also 6 great-grandchildren, twins Jayne and James Haubner, Rachel and Hunter Wolf, and Jack and Sara Burrell.
