Vernon W. Cross

Vernon W. Cross, 81, of Nettleton, formerly of Vaiden, died Sunday, May 12, 1996, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo following several weeks illness.

Mr. Cross was born in the Hebron Community of Montgomery County on Feb. 21, 1915. His parents were the late Appie and Beulah Braswell Cross. He married Cora Divine in 1967 and moved to Nettleton. He retired from the State Highway Department in 1980. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Nettleton and enjoyed gardening and yard work.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Lann Funeral Home in Nettleton with Bro. George Johnson officiating and Bro. Aubrey Boren assisting. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery in Montgomery County with graveside services at 3 p.m.

Mr. Cross was preceded in death by one son, Lethal Cross. Survivors are his wife, Cora Cross of Nettleton; two daughters, Barbara Forrester of Jackson, Vonnie Brooks of Longview, Texas; one step-daughter, Diana Pettigrew of Nettleton; one step-son, Travis Hester of Jackson; two sisters, Estelle Williams of Eupora; Essie Pearl Tindoll of Kilmichael; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Thaniel Sargent, Jimmy Moore, John Holland, Charles Gilmore, William "Buz" Francis, and Roger Morgan.

E E Pickle Funeral Home in Amory was in charge of arrangements.
