William Berlin Cross

William Berlin Cross, 85, retired lumberman and cattleman of Vaiden, died Monday, Dec. 23, at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Hebron Cemetery.

Cross, founder of Cross Lumber Company in Vaiden, was a member of the Vaiden United Methodist Church. He was a mason.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kate Cross of Vaiden; two daughters, Mrs. Ladell Nelms of Vaiden, Mrs. Muzette Strong of Jackson and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Betty Cross of Dearborn, Mi.; Also four sisters, Mrs. Era Tindoll of Vaiden, Mrs. Essie Tindoll of Kilmichael, Mrs. Arie Richardson of Grenada and Mrs. Estelle Williams of Eupora; a brother, Vernon Cross of Nettleton; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Tommy Murphy and the Rev. Howard Tucker were the officiating ministers.

Pallbearers were James Alford, Donnie Walker, Tommy Thornton, George Alley, Don Sampley, Ray Welch, Watt Welch and Jessie Williams.
