Mary Olive Kelly, 84, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Pine Pointe Hospice, surrounded by her family and close friends. She was a native of Whigham in Grady County, Ga., and a longtime resident of Macon, Ga.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Y. Kelly and Meredith Gibson Kelly, and her seven siblings.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, a devoted cousin, and cherished friends.

After graduating from the A.L. Miller School for Girls in Macon in 1957, she accepted a position with the Bibb County Board of Education, retiring from there in 1989 as director of accounting.

Mary was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church in Macon where she also taught a Sunday School class for the youth and was a mentor to many of her students. She later attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Jones County, Ga.

An avid reader, Mary enjoyed spiritual books, as well as mysteries and romances. She enjoyed recommending her favorites and swapping books with family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with loved ones. Mary had a kind nature and a generous spirit and always put the needs of others before her own.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery in Macon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charitable organization of your choice.
