Andrew Jackson Hammons the son of William "Bill" Hammons and Jane Hartley.


Obit-
Andy Hammons died Wednesday May 17. He was born May 24, 1860, Mr. Hammons married Mary Johnson on September 6, 1883 and to this union nine children were born, Five boys and four girls, all still living. they are Bill, Frank, Edd, and Charlie of Idaho; John of California; Bessie Rossall of California, Myria Thuring *(sic) of Rogersville,, Martha Barnett and Mary Pettit of Ava. Also surviving are thirty-four grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, three sisters, one brother. He was married again to Rebecca McDaniel on November 12, 1928, Rev. Johnie Pruitt of Dogwood conducted the funeral services Thursday.

Rev. Ab Rollie and wife, Mrs. Peggie Rollie, of Joplin, who are well known in this community, were visiting here a few days during the sickness and death of Mrs. Rollie's brother, A. J. Hammons.

Per death certif; was living in Lincoln township, Douglas Co., Mo at R. Ava, Mo at the time of Grandpa's death. He was married to Rebecca when he passed away. Grandpa was the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 23 days at his death. Grandpa did farming.

Grandpa is buried beside his first wife, Mary Eliza Jane Johnson-Hammons, beside them is my grandma (their grand daughter Gladys Leora Gleason-Daniels) the other side of them is a son of Frank Hammons, Virgil Hammons.

I did not know my gg grandparents, knew their daughter Martha Ann Hammons, she lived to be 100. I have heard the family talk about grandpa and grandma, and have photos of them and their children.
From the photos grandpa looked tall, and straight, with a twinkle in his eyes.
