Mrs. Christine Jewel Phillips Townsend, 91, of Icard, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday September 21, 2023.
Mrs. Townsend was born December 17, 1931, in Avery County, a daughter of the late Eli and Sarah Maltba Phillips.
She attended Clevenger Business College and retied as a secretary in the furniture manufacturing industry. After retirement Christine stayed busy as a "Grandmother Daycare", which she truly enjoyed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Alvin David "Bud" Townsend her sisters, Dot Cornett, Florence Weatherman, Alma Barrier, Welda Aldridge, Lois Robinson, and her brother, Duard Philips..
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Tony Townsend (Cheryl) of George Hildebrand and daughter, Angie Sutton (Keith) of Connelly Springs. Also surviving are the apples of her eye, her grandchildren, Zachary Townsend, Aaron Townsend (Ashten), Rebekah Sutton, Lydia Powell (Alex), Hannah Beaver (Joseph); great-grandchildren, Lily Townsend, Audrey Townsend, Addilynn Townsend, Elizabeth Amador, Tirzah Amador, Isaac Amador, Lucy Powell, Nathaniel Powell, William Powell, Savannah Beaver, Julianna Beaver, Roseanna Beaver; a brother, Bill Phillips (Doris) and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday September 30, 2023, at 12:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev. George Johnson officiating. A private Graveside Service will be held in the Burke Memorial Park.
